scripture memory

Two of my favorite commitments that I have for 2011 (because if I’m honest, I’m committed to getting fit…but the excitement’s not near as high :)) are memorizing 2 scriptures every month with all the ladies over on Beth Moore’s LPM Blog…better known as the Siesta Scripture Memory Team (SSMT) and reading through the whole Bible in a year using the LifeJournal reading plan found at YouVersion.com.

I did the  SSMT a couple of years ago and I think I even tried to post the verses I was trying to memorize on here a few times.

Now, I’m not promising that I’ll post here every 1st & 15th of the month – I’m learning that as soon as I promise something like that, I’m doomed to miss it. Not a bad doomed, just a “I love my life and there’s a ton going on…sometimes sitting in front of the computer just isn’t part of what’s going on” doomed. But here is the first verse of the year…I LOVE this verse and love what it means to me as I head into a brand new year full of new things….

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. (the last sentence is the first part of verse 2, I thought about just doing verse 1, but couldn’t leave off what I see as the most important part of the passage).
